In January 2020, Phase 1 of the 2-Phase California Market Center redevelopment project was complete and debuted the transformation of Building C into an elevated environment for DTLA’s fashion industry.

Brookfield Properties will relaunch the entirety of CMC’s iconic 1.8 million square foot complex as a mixed-use creative campus featuring Fashion Showrooms and Events in Building C, Creative Offices in Buildings A and B, Retail and Restaurants on our new open-air Plaza, as well as modern event spaces and a new portfolio of inspiring events. Our vision is to revitalize this iconic site, transforming CMC into a modern, multifaceted destination.

The new CMC will build on an incredible legacy of passion and collaboration as it welcomes the next century’s creative visionaries.

AN ESTABLISHED FASHION ICON

California Market Center has a proud history in the global fashion industry. Comprising three towers that span more than 1.8 million square feet, the CMC has been the heartbeat of the DTLA fashion intersection for more than 50 years. Built in 1963 to house the first wholesale fashion marketplace west of the Mississippi, CMC quickly became the primary center for fashion business in Los Angeles.

At its peak, CMC was home to more than 1,000 active showrooms and hosted 30 events annually, drawing thousands of prominent fashion industry businesses and professionals from around the globe. Today, the CMC remains the hub for L.A.’s world-renowned fashion district, as well as an established center for a wide range of businesses within the creative industries.
