WHAT WE LOVE ABOUT SHINDO

In addition to their commitment to ethical manufacturing and sustainability, we love Shindo’s artisan approach to manufacturing:

“Human hands and eyes are indispensable for making fine adjustments, even for jobs using machines. An artisan's intuition to act according to the circumstances, which has been long cultivated, cannot be imitated easily, even by AI. We strive to improve technologies and the environment that are required for reliable craftsmanship, and we continue to work on manufacturing high-quality products made in Japan.”

About THE COMPANY

SHINDO was established in 1970 as a manufacturer of narrow woven fabric in Fukui, Japan. In 2000, they released S.I.C. (SHINDO ITEM CATALOG), a comprehensive photo album of ribbons and trimmings. SHINDO continues its activities as a comprehensive manufacturer and aims to be a company that undertakes stable manufacturing by taking the environment into consideration.

The company undertakes integrated production at its own Japanese factory for all processes from planning and development to dyeing, weaving and knitting, and post-processing.

As the world’s leading manufacturer of narrow-woven textiles for apparel and global supplier of ribbons and trims, SHINDO has opened showrooms in Paris, New York, and Los Angeles.

S.I.C. | the shindo brand

S.I.C. offers ribbons and trimmings developed by fully utilizing the knowledge acquired through custom orders. The company started product development in 2000 with a vision to manufacture products desired by designers and creatives around the world.

S.I.C.’s ribbons and trimmings are designed to be the ideal component for accentuating garments, offering a wide range of products to serve as beautiful accents, as well as for increasing comfort and functionality.

Having established a system to secure a stable supply, S.I.C. is comprised of over 720 item numbers, with more than 42,000 items in stock, all of which have satisfied SHINDO’s stringent quality standards.

INTRODUCING THE NEW AW21/22 SUSTAINABLE COLLECTION

SHINDO is excited to announce an expanded selection of sustainable products for the AW 21/22 season.

Piping and stretch elastics made from recycled polyester are now in stock and available immediately.

Biomass PET-products, stretch binders featuring retro-reflective yarns and dyeable post-production, as well as jacquard tapes and cords incorporating traditional Japanese patterns, can also now be custom-ordered.

SHINDO’S COMMITMENT TO ETHICAL MANUFACTURING & SUSTAINABILITY

In November 2007, SHINDO obtained the ISO14001 environmental management system certification, which is granted to companies that contribute to environmental conservation. Since then, the company has continued to engage in ethical manufacturing, paying care and consideration to the environment in accordance with their internal regulations.

In recent years, SHINDO has seen an increase in demand for apparel trimmings utilizing environmentally-friendly materials. In particular, global sportswear and apparel brands have been swift to adopt SDG-related initiatives, and orders for tape and ribbons made from raw materials such as recycled polyester and organic cotton have increased.

In view of these developments, SHINDO has added recycled polyester and organic cotton ribbons to the lineup of its own original brand S.I.C., and keeps sufficient stocks of inventory to enable clients to purchase the quantities they need, whenever they need them. They hope that by lowering the hurdle with regard to lot sizes (which often concerns clients), they can make it easier for clients to attempt more sustainability-conscious product planning and prototyping activities. With smaller lot sales and standing inventory making it easier for many clients to purchase their products, SHINDO aims to support the creation of a more sustainable society.
