CMC URBAN BEEKEEPING
ROOFTOP HONEY BEE HIVES
As a company that is committed to sustainability and the environment, CMC is honored to partner with Alvéole to provide a DTLA rooftop sanctuary for urban beekeeping. Bees play a crucial role in the Earth’s ecosystem and with Alvéole’s help, CMC has been able to adopt and keep a rooftop home for over 28,000 honey bees.

INTERESTING FACTS
Our rooftop sanctuary is currently home to 2 hives.
Each hive is reigned by a Queen Bee, named Thelma & Louise by tenant Money Ruins Everything: Learn More
Our hives currently house 28,500 honey bees who travel to and fro over 15,000 miles each day to explore and pollinate DTLA and its surrounding Los Angeles ecosystem.
Our honey bees are currently being prepared for the summer honey harvest!
Bees are not interested in humans, especially CMC Honey Bees which are a special breed of Italian bees that have a mild temperament and are known for their docility. Alvéole has installed hundreds of hives featuring these Italian bees at hundreds of companies, schools and houses over the last several years, and they’ve never had to deal with a major issue related to bee stings. Of course, the possibility of getting stung while standing close to a beehive exists, but it’s very slim.

WHY URBAN BEEKEEPING?
Bee colonies flourish in urban areas. The reason? They require an environment fulfilling three criteria: the absence of pesticides, an abundance of water and floral resources, and a temperate climate. All of which CMC is providing in our private bee sanctuary perched on our rooftop.
